bob polster

L. Robert Polster, MD, FAAP
Bob was born and raised in the Columbus area. He attended Bexley High School, Ohio University, and The Ohio State University. He received a Bachelors of Science in 1963 and MD degree in 1968, both from OSU. Internship, residency and fellowship in community pediatrics were done at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital from 1968 through 1973.

Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1971-73, obtaining the rank of major in the Medical Corps. During that time he served one year in Vietnam and one year in Colorado. Following the completion of his formal training, Bob established the practice now known as Eastglen Pediatrics.

From 1974 until 1985 Bob also worked for the Children's Hospital as director of the Children and Youth Community Outpatient Program. This program had six community centers, each staffed with pediatricians, nutritionists, psychologists, speech pathologists, and social workers. Since 1985 Bob has maintained his interest in child public health.

He served on the medical advisory board of March of Dimes for many years. He has been an active member of the Professional Relations Committee of the Columbus Medical Association. He has served on many committees of the medical staff at Nationwide Children's Hospital.

Bob has had a life long interest in travel and interchange with people from other cultures. He feels that this experience expands his ability to provide support and understanding for his patients needs, leading to a holistic approach to medical care. Bob is married to Marsha, his muse and his conscience. He has three wonderful children, who are married to three wonderful spouses, and eight super grandchildren - just ask him!

Cynthia J. Black, MD, FAAP
Cynthia joined Eastglen Pediatrics in 1999 after moving her with her family form Cleveland, Ohio. She received her M.D. from Case Western Reserve University in 1988 and completed her internship and residency in Pediatrics at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. That was followed by a fellowship in Development Disabilities also at MetroHealth. Before moving to Columbus, she provided primary Pediatric care to children with developmental disabilities as part of the Comprehensive Care Program at MetroHealth. In that capacity she worked closely with physicians from other specialties, psychologists and social workers. It was a wonderful chance to broaden her basic pediatric training and learn about other medically related fields.

Cynthia and her family moved to Columbus when her husband found a position here. She says she has loved the transition from caring for only children with developmental disabilities to providing primary care for all children. She feels providing continuous Pediatric care from infancy through the teen years has fit well with the “nurturing” side of her personality. Most important to her preventative medicine: medicine that is designed to keep you healthy! She keeps abreast of the newest recommendations in nutrition and healthy lifestyles and is always happy to share what she knows. Careful attendance to infant and child developments is also a special interest for her.

Cynthia has two children who have grown up with her working part time at Easglen. Our office has become a special place for them. She says that they get to see mom and more than just mom, but also a professional who spends the day watching over the health and well- being of other children besides them. A sobering experience, to say the least, her oldest child is in college and her youngest is navigating high school.

Outside the office, she loves to travel, read, cook and spend time with her kids. A working mom’s life is like walking a tightrope. But she says if you can keep your balance, the rewards are too many to count!
